Sadly read of the passing of the legendary r&b tenor sax player Big Jay McNeely at age 91 on September 16 . He recorded for Federal (1952 - 1954), Bayou (1953), Imperial (1953), Aladdin (1954), Savoy (1955), Vee Jay (1955 - 1956), Warner Brothers (1963) and notably for Swingin' between 1959 - 1962 for whom he has accompanied Little Sonny Warner in 1959 on his blues hit "There is Something on Your Mind". His honking instrumental "3 - D" was available in reissue form on King lp 650 some years ago and the Sonny Warner track on Collectables lp Col-5133 that also featured 15 other sides (incl. 6 prevoiusly unissued). Other reissues on vinyl and cd have also been available over the years.

One solitary notice in yesterday's paper noting the passing of Max Bostock. I recall Max first came to Perth as Frankie Davidson's music director and decided to stay. Max Bostock & His Rockets provide accompaniment on the early Danceland label e.p. "Rock and Roll with Frank Davidson" DL-03 and as leader of the Ziegfeld Palais Orchestra on other Danceland label releases. He also contributed to the early success of TVW 7 with his musical contibutions.
