On Wednesday may 29th I will be presenting a feature hour on the music and songs of burt Bacharach on Kalamunda FM at 4pm.Burt Bacharach turned 91 earlier in may.If Irving Berlin was the greatest songwriter of the first part of the twentieth century then it could be argued that Burt Bacharach was the greatest in the latter half of the twentieth century. Some may argue Lennon& Mcartney but the facts speak for themselves.69 US top 40 hits and 49 Uk top forty hits.^ He had 6 Us number ones and six UK number ones..Interestingly not one his songs was a dual US/UK number 1.He also has grammys and Oscars for his songwriting. He also written the music for the broadway showPromises Promises.
Burt has contributed at least twenty songs as theme songs for movies and countless others have appeared on the soundtracks of movies like I say a little prayer for you.He was also musical director for many big name artists with Marlene Dietrich being someone who Burt worked with for a long time.He also arranged, conducted and produced for many recording artists.Although Burt wrote most of his songs with Hal David he also wrote with his brother Mack as well as Bob Hilliard and in his later years with his former wife Carole Bayer Sager. It would be near impossible to name all the artists who recorded songs written by Burt but it goes from such diverse artists as dionne warwick to even the stranglers.
So who will get a spot in this precious hour of music. We will have a few songs from his movies,Gene Vincent,Elvis,Beatles and the Drifters, We will have a few lesser known artists who missed out on having hits with his songs.we will have some aussie content with Normie Rowe and noeline Batley and we must have his first major songwriting hit.Hope to catch you
